In 2017, the Friends of Burkina Faso (FBF) provided funding to a grassroots agricultural organization, AIVPDL, located in the Binde, Manga, and Gogo regions of south-central Burkina Faso. AIVPDL is run by a retired Burkinabé extension agent, Patrice Yameogo, and six other retired professionals. They provide training and extension services to improve crop production practices for 375 village farmers (just over half are women). Areas of special focus include restoration of soil fertility, adoption of modern crop management techniques, and access to improved seeds. AIVPDL and friends eagerly await the results of the 2017 harvest and will assess the overall benefits of this initiative.
