In response to this incentive, villagers in the north of Burkina Faso have built over 300 primary schools out of mud and thatched roofs. Unfortunately, the government lacks resources to replace more than a few of these village schools with durable schools built with cement-block classrooms, metal roofs, doors, windows; latrines; deep bore wells, and pumps. Association NEEED is committed to replacing the “worst of the worst” of these schools with durable ones, as funds allow, in order to improve school environments. In 2012, FBF has contributed to the construction of primary schools in the villages of Dougouri Ouidi and Koénéba, thanks to a generous donor. In 2015, it was able to fund the construction of the primary school Talle Bouli, again thanks to a generous donor.

Fri, 27 Feb 2015 12:25:37 +0000 fbf 10 at https://www.friendsofburkinafaso.org Introducing Computers and the Internet to Students in Koudougou https://www.friendsofburkinafaso.org/projects/introducing-computers-and-internet-to-students-koudougou Introducing Computers and the Internet to Students in Koudougou fbf Sat, 04/13/2013 - 10:46
2012, 2013, IT, Koudougou, Peace Corps, education, secondary school

In 2012 and 2013, the Lycée Provincial à Koudougou (LPK) developed an innovative computer-science curriculum, thanks to the leadership of I.T. faculty members a Peace Corps volunteer (PCV) assigned to the high school as well as some financial and technical support from the Friends of Burkina Faso. During this two-year period, over 250 students acquired basic computer skills and were exposed to the Internet for the first time. Enterprising students became teaching assistants. Others learned how to repair computers and/or helped manage the lab. Earnings from sales of refurbished computers to residents of Koudougou generated revenue, enabling the I.T. program to purchase needed equipment.

Sat, 13 Apr 2013 14:46:17 +0000 fbf 21 at https://www.friendsofburkinafaso.org Ashoka and Social Entrepreneurship https://www.friendsofburkinafaso.org/projects/ashoka-and-social-entrepreneurship Ashoka and Social Entrepreneurship fbf Fri, 04/13/2012 - 10:34
2012, Ashoka, Ouagadougou, fostering innovation, revenue-generating, trees

Ashoka is a non-profit organization that promotes social entrepreneurship throughout the world. FBF formed a partnership with an Ashoka fellow from Burkina Faso in 2012. This fellow launched a nursery/forestry project designed to train youth about methods to cultivate and develop plantations of eucalyptus, jatropha, acacia, and fruit trees within the Bendatoege zone near Ouagadougou. Planting trees in the Sahel mitigates the adverse effects of climate change, enriches the ecological environment, and provides a source of income for producers who sell fruit and wood used for fuel, furniture, and home construction.

Fri, 13 Apr 2012 14:34:12 +0000 fbf 16 at https://www.friendsofburkinafaso.org
